CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Kirigoe Mima
CANON: Perfect Blue
CANON REFERENCE: beep
CANON POINT: After being assaulted by Me-Mania, and before being taken to "Mima's room."
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: 21
APPEARANCE: One and two! A cute girl with a cute face and a trim body. Mima has dark bobbed hair, dark eyes, and dainty features. She often takes great care to present the best version of herself to the world - she keeps herself clean, diets, wears makeup, and dresses herself as stylishly as her meager pay will allow.
CONTRACT PAYMENT: She just wants her tetras back.
QUESTIONNAIRE:How important is loyalty to you? What does it take to earn your loyalty? What extents are you willing to go through to maintain loyalty, and respect the loyalty others might have invested in you?Mima will twist herself into pretzels for someone she feels loyal to, regardless of whether or not the sentiment is returned.
She continuously allows herself to be sexually exploited by an agency which repeatedly fails to protect her, take her seriously, or treat her as a human being, solely because she feels that they were good to her during her idol career. She takes such steps as agreeing to film a rape scene and participating in a pornographic photoshoot despite her own misgivings to preserve the reputation and comfort of her agent, who rarely extends the same courtesies to her. It is also demonstrated that she stayed in idol for longer than she had wanted to to avoid letting down not only her management and bandmates, but also to please her parents, who helped to put her through singing lessons as a child. Mima's loyalty is not only easily earned, but remains strong long beyond its best before date.
Your Faction leader, not just your boss but the leader, has asked you to carry out a hit. The target is a non-affiliated public leader, well-liked by the people of the city. Do you carry it out? Why or why not?Mima is generally very pliant and dislikes the inevitable conflict that comes from asserting herself, but the easiest way to get her to go along with instruction is to make her feel indebted to you. Loyalty is a slippery slope for Mima, and there are very few things which could give her purchase once she's started down it - feeling beholden to someone inevitably leads to such pressure points as loyalty, trust, and affinity.
Although it would terrify her, if these roots are properly seeded in her, there is a chance that she would swallow these feelings with all of the others and commit herself long enough to go through with it. The clan has taken care of her long enough - they must have a good reason for doing what they're doing, right?
What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?Mima frequently waylays diversions and expressions of self to disastrous results. As she allows herself to be exploited and packaged to be sold, she loses more and more of herself through this prioritization. Though she enjoyed outings with her bandmates while she was part of CHAM! and also kept fish prior to her career change.
As she falls deeper into pleasing others, bottling her fear and doing what those she trusts tell her she must to succeed in her track hop, Mima neglects her sense of self - her room changes with her image and clogs with scattered personal items and trash, toys and girlish decor vanishing from her shelves, and she distances herself from the other members of CHAM! as they are shown to succeed without her, despite her age. This culminates in her beloved tetras dying of neglect, which triggers a psychological breakdown.
An oni of the Shuten Clan has gone completely berserk, and is going on a violent rampage through the city. You can't stop him, but you CAN lead him elsewhere, but you only have two choices: a road by a discotheque with a large crowd in front, or the nearby park that you do not know is unoccupied, and may have children present. What do you choose, and why?Though the safety in numbers guaranteed by the discotheque may be a more reliably safe option. Mima would lean away from it for a number of reasons. There are more people there who could be harmed, should the oni's temper flare too dangerously. A discotheque means sensation - lights, and music, and thumping bass lines, and voices high and loud, and people with too much alcohol thudding in their veins. Things which may appeal to the oni's libation-seeking sensibilities, but things which are also liable to turn jumping sparks into raging fire.
If the hour is late enough for the discotheque to be so crowded, Mima would reasonably surmise that children (probably) shouldn't be wandering the city parks, especially not in a place like this. The quiet solace of the park, therefore, holds more promise of actually solving the problem.
And if it doesn't, well, Mima is ready to either grab the kids and run, or distract the oni's temper herself.
POWERS & ABILITIES:She has no real supernatural powers or abilities. She is, however, a skilled performer. Mima has years of idol training and work under her belt, and is very skilled in singing, dancing, and speaking to the public. The work and training required to succeed in such a field has granted her some measure of strength, displayed when she destabilizes Me-Mania when he held her by knifepoint, physical endurance, and a charismatic, easy charm. She also is shown to be an impressively skilled actress.
SUITABILITY:Although Mima has spent much of her career in the pink and childish Idol arena, she had the grit to maintain both her career and her pristine public image until the matronly old age of 21 before she decided on pivoting into another avenue of Japan's entertainment industry - that being acting. From that point on, sex and violence is no stranger to Mima's every day life - not only does the fiction she takes part in embody these themes every day, with her character becoming the murderous villain of Double Bind's fictional canon, but within her own unraveling psychology.
Even as her circumstances darken in this regard, Mima remains outwardly bright and determined to succeed, internalizing the pain caused by her new career's demands and driving herself through the circumstances arrayed before her by her agent. She does whatever is required of her to succeed in this new and lurid world - Mima allows herself to be exploited sexually, suffers harassment and hallucinations, and consistently deteriorates even as she projects a confident, mature image to the media, answering questions about the decisions that are killing her with elegance and certainty which do little to betray the internal terror and diffidence she truly feels.
Mima is brave and quick when she is being physically menaced. When her deranged stalker confronts and assaults her, she acts quickly to defy him for as long as she can, fighting him off until she can no longer, despite his large and imposing size. When threatened at knifepoint, Mima grips Uchida's blade and twists his grasp to topple him before fleeing, and tries to stall his advance when cornered by throwing backstage detritus and set pieces at him. When Mima is finally incapacitated and about to be sexually assaulted by her stalker, she similarly quickly regains her senses and is able to defend herself - she reaches covertly for a nearby hammer as she's disrobed and dispatches her attacker with it before she's raped, keeping her composure and surviving an encounter that should have killed her.
This quickness and resilience in the face of abject terror can also be seen during her flight from Rumi. When her manager ultimately betrays her and attempts to murder her, Mima is chased down across Tokyo. She attempts to talk sense into Rumi multiple times during her flight and is brutalized and stabbed, but still continues her escape as she bleeds. Ultimately, it's Mima's insight into her own struggles with her psychosis and identity which save her life; she sees her own reflection as she's dying and, realizing the reality that lay before her, is galvanized into action. She steals Rumi's wig, styled after her own hair, and halts the attack by destabilizing the fantasy that Rumi has given herself up to.
Mima uses her surprising resilience to not only survive all of this, but surpass it, moving on from these brutal attacks and lurid circumstances to become a successful and recognizable actress in her own right.
FACTION SUITABILITY:Tamamo ClanA longtime performer and vibrant entertainer, Mima would find her footing most naturally in the Tamamo clan. She has long worked mundane illusions of the self, first on stage and then on camera, in order to entertain and captivate. She is also quick, insightful, and tries to find indirect, non-violent solutions to threats and problems even when faced with threatening violence, as discussed.
Through her career, however, she has been allowed precious little freedom. Idol saw her manager, Rumi, tightly overseeing her personal relationships, not allowing her to date or be seen associating publicly with men, and isolating her to curate the innocent public image she needed to project. Though moving into acting and presenting a more adult Mima to the world allowed her to shed some of the more suffocating aspects of the Idol image, this move gave her very little agency back.
Instead, her agent Tadokoro simply took over Rumi's position and ran her image in the opposite direction, controlling her words and her styling, pushing her into harmful situations to project to the public the image of an independent, attractive, sexually available starlet, far matured from her years in frilly pink idol dresses. Through her adult life, she has not been allowed the luxury of a "self," not of one she truly controlled and resonated with. She instead exists in the public eye as a patchwork of what her handlers think will help her succeed and maximize their own bookings and profits. It would take some immersion in the Tamamo's culture of freedom, personal liberty, and honest self-expression before she knew what to do with herself.
With some time, however, it could be just what she needs.
Shuten ClanShe may play a killer on TV, but Mima is not a violent person. Quite the opposite - Mima strives to get along with everyone around her. When she is pit against someone who is violent and aggressive, she often tries (unsuccessfully) to diffuse the conflict by talking her way out rather than through violence of her own. Instead of immediately fighting back against Me-Mania and later Rumi when they threaten her life, Mima tries to reason with and appeal to them, even to her own detriment. She only retaliates with violence when she can no longer avoid a violent conclusion - and even then, she is only pushed to do so directly once.
The hard stance against lying and deceit may also prove to be something of an obstacle - although Mima is not duplicitous by nature, her circumstances have ingrained within her an ease when it comes to misrepresenting herself, her true feelings and thoughts. Her first instinct through the entirety of her adult life has been to misdirect and project an image of herself, rather than to live genuinely. Though it would take some getting used to before the stark honesty didn't make her feel naked, this enforced candor may prove to be an overall benefit and relief.
She would, however, resonate with the sheer determination, the dogged zest for life and living, on which the clan was built. Her greatest hope is to use what feels like the rubble of her own destruction as a foundation to build a new and improved future for herself.
Sutoku AllianceThough Mima is not necessarily stupid, she is shown to come with a certain cluelessness and naivete. She need someone older than her to explain how the Internet works and to set up a computer for her, she trusts blindly in people who exploit and abuse her for their own profit, and she displays very little concern about her fans regularly congregating outside of her agency in wait of her prior to her difficulties with stalking.
This isn't to say that being contracted to the Sutoku Alliance would be a total waste, however. Though Mima would not necessarily make for an effective independent agent or business mogul, she is a trusting, pretty, unassuming girl with natural charm and charisma, and ample experience in the entertainment industry. Motivated adequately, Mima could effectively extract and tuck information away for rainy days, so that someone else could turn that rain into a storm.
The Department of EnmaIn all honesty, the most that could be said about Mima's fit with the Enma is that the rigid rule of law and the protection offered by the order that they enforce may comfort her, after the constant brutalization and exploitation she has experienced. Such an unflinching and uncompromising stance for order and against those who would betray that order would make her feel a measure safer. She could also function well as a peacekeeper, as has been belaboured, she is far more likely to charm and talk her way around problems than she is to respond with force or anger. She would rather make friends than enemies.
However, Mima would make for a poor enforcer. Outside of TV crime thrillers and horror, she is not an intimidating figure by any stretch, and certainly lacks command and backbone. She has little to fall back on if her charm fails her. And although she would operate admirably as a civil servant for a time, Mima would quickly become restless and seek other uses of her talents.
